A special face to face edition with Carol Howard Merritt and Bruce Reyes-Chow, talking about how to keep young pastors in the denomination and how the internet can be used in ministry.

Bruce (and his people) were kind enough to give me fifteen minutes of his time. Bruce talked about how his election is symbolic and opens the door for conversation, but it is not “a savior moment” for the PC(USA). He also challenged all the people who are excited about his election to be willing to step up and do their part over the next two years.

And here are my final Friday night reflections from General Assembly.
Camille, Zach and Shawn connected Monday morning to bring you a report on GA - what has happened and what is still to come!
I’m going to try and do almost nightly mini-casts from General Assembly. They are mostly going to be my reflections on the day’s events, but hopefully I’ll score some interviews as well.
Over the past week or so we were able to have a conversation with each one of the four candidates running for the office of Moderator of the General Assembly. We are particularly excited about this because this may be the first time that any Presbyterian can actually hear from the candidates before the Assembly meets. There are usually a number of print interviews with the candidates, but we believe that being able to hear them speak and have a conversation gives a little more insight into who they are and how they would lead as Moderator. Enjoy!
Here are the interviews and the websites you can go to to learn more about each candidate.

Bruce Reyes-Chow - Bruce’s Interview - Bruce’s Website
Roger Shoemaker - Roger’s Interview - Roger’s Website

This is part of our ongoing GA coverage which began with Episode 42.
As you can tell, changes are afoot at decently.org. We are excited to enter into a new partnership with The Presbyterian Outlook! Jack Haberer, the Editor and Publisher of the Outlook, and I have been in conversation for almost a year about this and I am thrilled that it has finally come to pass. For those who are new to the Decently and in Order community, I welcome you! To those of you who have been part of the DAIO family before this partnership, thanks for being a part of this new chapter.
Here is how I see the benefits of this partnership.
1) DAIO gets to be seen and experienced by a lot of new people! We’ve really had no official advertising for decently.org and have relied on word of mouth (and a couple of wonderful magazine articles) to let people know we are here. Now we get the benefit of being part of the Outlook family and having the eyeballs of their followers on our website.
2) The Outlook is enriched by the unique nature of decently.org and by having a new people exposed to what it has to offer. A lot of the DAIO community is probably already familiar with the Outlook, but I am sure not everyone is. The Outlook is one of the few print publications I still subscribe to, because I believe it is a valuable publication for Presbyterians to stay current with.
3) We finally have people who know what they are doing behind the scenes. I’m a geek with a certain amount of technical knowledge, but there is only so much I can do with websites. But now we have Forrest and Dean at Lifework Media who can do more visually and technically with DAIO than I ever could.
Personally, I don’t see any downside to this venture. I am still maintaining editorial control of DAIO, at least as much as I ever have, because in reality the DAIO users are the editors and authors of the site. No money has changed hands between DAIO and the Outlook and no one at DAIO is on the payroll of the Outlook. This was a partnership we came to because we thought it would enrich the online community of the Presbyterian church. Please let us know what you think as we all work together on this.
Peace,
Shawn
